This comprised the Welcome Remarks of UERMMMCI President ROMEO A. DIVINAGRACIA during the inauguration of the P. O. Domingo Out-Patient Clinics in celebration of the Medical Center's 54th Foundation Anniversary on June 15, 2011.
UERMMMCI IS 54!
Dr. Lucio Tan, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, and Vice Chairman of the Board, Mr. Wilson T. Young, of the UERMMMCI Board of
Trustees; Mr. Harry Tan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tan Yan Kee Foundation Inc.; honorable members of the Boards of UERMMMCI, UE Manila,
and the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, members of the family of the late P. O. Domingo, honored guests, members of the administration of UERMMMCI, faculty
members and students, employees of UERMMMCI, ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant good morning to all and welcome.
The University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Incorporated celebrates its 54th Founding Anniversary today. To mark this auspicious occasion we wish to showcase today part of the massive upgrading of its educational and hospital facilities. Fundamental to the upgrading activities are the safety and comfort of its clientele-the students and the patients-entailing the creation of bigger, state-of-the art classrooms, a new spacious skills laboratory, upgrading of the hospital facilities and the construction of its new out-patient clinics.
The transfer of the out-patient department to its new location in the south campus will minimize if not eliminate the necessity of patients, employees and doctors in having to cross the busy Aurora Boulevard, which has seen some vehicular accidents in the past and our students, faculty and employees being victims of petty crimes.
Highlighting this Founding Anniversary celebration will be the Inauguration and Blessing of the new Out-Patient Clinics which is dedicated to the memory of the late P. O. Domingo, former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of UERMMMCI, whose efforts and expert fiscal management led the turning around of the financial position of the Medical Center.
Since its foundation in 1957, UERMMMCI has remained a non-stock, non-profit corporation. The institution has attained prestige, recognition and an enviable image because of the excellent performance of its graduates in various professional licensing examinations and the leadership and professional expertise of its graduates. These it has achieved through the careful selection of its faculty and students, excellent educational programs, and grants of scholarships to deserving students.
The latter has entailed the provision of scholarships b y management, alumni and the Tan Yan Kee Foundation. UERMMMCI fulfills part of its social responsibilities through the out-patient clinics, which cater to the indigent patients of the community by providing free medical services to our fellowmen who cannot afford private medical care. The out-patient clinics serve an average of 35,000 patients a year. Through partnerships with the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, the out-patient department has gone out on numerous medical-dental missions to far-flung areas of the country as well.
So today, ladies and gentlemen, I invite you to join us in honoring the memory of a man who spent his talent and expertise to turn around the fortunes of this institution and steered the Medical Center back unto its path of excellence in health sciences education, patient care, research and community service, by dedicating this unit of the Medical Center which symbolizes our commitment to serve the underprivileged among us, in his memory.
