THE COLLEGE OF PHYSICAL THERAPY OFFICIALLY welcomed 138 BS Physical Therapy (BSPT) freshmen and 12 BS Prosthetics and Orthotics (BSPO) freshmen in its 24th Opening Exercises and Recognition Day held last June 10, 2011 at the 5th floor Auditorium, College of Nursing Building.
The occasion was graced by the presence of School Administrators, Vice-Chairman & COO Wilson T. Young; President Romeo A. Divinagracia; Vice President for Administration, Johannah N. Trinidad; Deans of the different academic units, Dr. Teresa Yap of the Graduate School and Dr. Carmelita Divinagracia of the College of Nursing. Guests from Physicians for Peace also attended the event. Retired Brigadier General Ron Sconyers of the US Air Force and CEO of the Physicians for Peace and Mr. Rob Laine, Physicians for Peace President for Philippines. The entire faculty of the College including the expatriates who will teach the course BSPO were also present. Ms. Helen Cochrane, BSPO Project Director; Mr. Teppei Morimoto, BSPO Lecturer and Mr. Colin Martin, BSPO Technical Trainer.
The program started with an opening remark and welcome address given by the Dean of the College of Physical Therapy, Dr. Raquel S. Cabazor. This was followed by the introduction of Administration, Academic Officers and Faculty Members by College Secretary, Dr. Carmina Ann Jerez-Cortez. The students of the different year levels were introduced by their respective year level coordinators. This was followed by Vice Chairman Wilson T. Young, who gave an inspirational message.
The affair also served as the recognition day for the College to honor students and teachers alike. The top ten, Dean's listers and Entrance scholars for the School Year 2010-2011 were awarded their certificates. Outstanding teachers for the same school year were also recognized. recipient of this awards are as follows: Ms. Paulita Idian from the PE Department of UE Manila; Ms. Carmelita Salvador, GE faculty; Dr. Jomi Alcon and Dr. Dorothy Dy- Agsaoay, Medical faculty of the College, and Mr. John Christopher de Luna from the core PT faculty. The Best Center Award as adjudged by PT Interns, was then awarded to the Physical Therapy section of the Philippine General Hospital. Mr. Wilbert Buco, Chief PT of the section, and an alumna of the College received the award. The induction of the Student Council officers for the School Year 2011-2012, followed which was led by President Romeo Divinagracia.
The event ended with motivational speeches given by distinguished guests, Retired Brigadier General Ron Sconyers of the US Air Force and CEO of the Physicians for Peace, and Dr. Jasmin Jo, Batch 2000 alumna of the College, who recently topped the Neurology Specialty Board Examination last August 2010.
